Welcome to Generation Gap where we ask you about your favorite generation of a certain multi-generational car nameplate. Then, explain why your choice is right to the rest of us uneducated folks.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Last week was the smallest Saab, this week it’s the sportiest Saab! The Sonett was, as I’m sure we’re all aware, Saab’s only true ‘sports car’ despite its rather odd FWD design, two-stroke and later V4 engine, and hatch back body style. Which is your favorite, the earliest ‘Super Sport’ or the final wedge?

The options:

Sonett I [1955 - 1957] Prototype 94

Sonett II [1966 - 1967] Two-stroke I3

They’re all cool, but the III is just the prettiest. Even without pop up headlamps.

Nice try, SAAB!

The first one’s just a less-good Porsche 550. The second- and third-gen cars are.. unfortunate. The last one, though, I think you were kinda on to something, as far as shape, but time marched on and left you behind.

Well they were never really meant to be compared in that way. They did compete in SCCA against Triumphs and MGs but were definitely bought more for the weird factor than the fun factor.

Don’t get me wrong, I love them all.

I’ve never drank the Saab Kool-Aid so they all look just as odd as the next here.

I’ll go with the Prototype as it’s the only semi attractive one.

I was thinking the first looked more like Roberto from Futurama in car form.

I really want the Sonnet II V4 with the Sonnet II I3 shell. I think the V4 looks awkward.

It looks awkward since the V4 wouldn’t fit under the sloped hood of the I3, so you’re out of luck unless you can alter the laws of physics! ;)

I think the Sonett II is a really good looking car in the right colors. The III is just too 70s.

Well this is coming from a 96(?) owner, so you might be a bit biased ;)
